Common questions

Good things to know.

Which files does Filetale analyze?

Filetale watches your Downloads folder and any extra folders you explicitly add. It reads files in place and never moves, renames or deletes the originals.

Does every Safari download include its source page?

Safari extensions cannot observe every completed download. Filetale captures likely download actions and matches them to stable local files when possible. A file is still cataloged normally when no reliable source match is available.

Why does Filetale need website access in Safari?

Website access lets the extension read the current page title and likely download link so Filetale can remember where a file came from. You choose the websites and permission level in Safari Settings. Filetale removes credentials, query strings and fragments before saving context.

What happens to my files if I remove Filetale?

Nothing. Your original files remain where they are. Filetale stores a separate local catalog and private Spotlight entries, which you can erase from Filetale Settings before uninstalling if you wish.

Can I restore Filetale Pro?

Yes. Open Filetale Settings, choose Pro, then select Restore Purchases. Use the same Apple Account that made the original purchase.

Does Filetale upload files to an AI service?

No. File analysis, OCR, classification and search happen on your Mac. Filetale has no cloud file-processing service, account, analytics or advertising.

Safari troubleshooting

If the extension is not capturing context.

01

Check the switch

Open Safari Settings → Extensions and make sure Filetale is enabled.

02

Check website access

Choose Ask, Allow or Always Allow for the site you are testing. Private Browsing capture is off by default.

03

Restart once

If Safari reports that background content could not load, quit Safari and Filetale, reopen Filetale, then reopen Safari.
